English 2 Honors (Period 2)

Course Description

Throughout the year, students will develop professional and college preparatory skills that emphasize critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.  Students will practice Common Core Standards for listening, speaking, reading and writing as they solve problems that people in any community would face.

Students will analyze what they have read (fiction and nonfiction), and conduct research to support their views of an issue. The writing process will utilize technology to evaluate, revise, collaborate and publish.  Students will develop editing skills as they move from rough drafts to final drafts.  Speaking skills will emphasize formal well-supported presentations as well as informal discussions as part of a community of learners. Students will learn to analyze and apply vocabulary in context and will receive instruction on essential grammatical concepts to improve fluency and clarity.  Students enrolled in honors will develop skills to transition to IB or AP English courses.  Class writing assessments will include analysis of literature and non-fiction articles.

During Distance Learning, class assignments and meetings will be posted regularly on Google Classroom.  Students are expected to attend meetings and to participate in all aspects of the learning process.  Additional support is available during the daily tutorial period by appointment.
