welcome to Walnut you're watching my Divya live right here on big TV we're back at my old stomping grounds Walnut High School where I graduated and was so excited to be back it's the very first career day and listen to the kids delivering the keynote hopefully inspiring them to pursue their own careers we might see some future house right here on TV never know what's where my locker was too high the way out 1988 Bugatti television network available the address to Time Warner Cable in Stony Brook she is the daughter of his marketing turn up the video the largest number in the world anquite has produced over 5 years of fitness and editorial programs with artists and red light Justin Timberlake Jay Rihanna Bruno Mars Justin Bieber Drake Miguel Kendrick Lamar she's been named with a film or maybe these top dirty make your fashion Elsa and was most recently featured in the world Redlands Caribbean Urbana High School is one of the models in the country somewhere hello hello hello what's a lot of questions that we have right now if you take a look at this what's the weather here twenty years ago I want Superman and the reason being because as seniors is there as we lost every single I dress up as a mascot which is for the first time something to be back in the preventive here waking up on my black everything to get all of his side and about your next opening prayer video of Call of Duty or a telephone number play music a list of pitchers as a theater movie about Mike Hurst I wanted to do it because other people personal to some of you that might also be from Walnut the people now Journey give me the information to create our company called by DPO make a resume I wish one day that all of you putting a little crazy this was before Facebook Twitter Instagram nobody had all my profile so in the future I really hope that everybody has a v Charter store here's my story I started making music career I'd like to call a musical journey and Elementary School I would listen to the radio and watch programs like you MTV Raps Hollywood Hamilton had a countdown show and so every night on my tape recorder I was record the top 10 Countdown minus Marshalls and I would bring it to my sixth grade classmates and play it at lunch and I remember that feeling of somebody running up to me and think what is that song Or that song just gave me this feeling of enjoyment and annoying that music can really personify emotions whether to making you feel good or making you feel understood I wanted play part of that process and it helping you recognize those songs that that'll get you to that point Radio Disney Radio Express on air. Or some of my first jobs until I found narup and I met the craters of myspace.com they said we want to create a digital social platform for artists you know what are your thoughts what are your marketing ideas I said where do I sign up I think the best part of my job was meeting Artist At the beginning stages you know Justin Bieber coming to the office with his mom and can playing a few cover songs to A year later being on on the red carpet with him at the Grammys and interviewing about the success that he just had to meeting Drake when he was just up mixtapes give me them away for free and getting millions of Flav and booking shows off of the platform and then later being able to make him Rookie of the Year in partnership with the those experiences and helping new artists that were so talented get to the next ages of hers all it is is always a memorable experience where there is Beauty in sing him you don't get booked for a TV show or it's Kendrick Lamar you know where King with him and booking his first national LifeStream performance to a few weeks ago helping secure good morning show in Hawaii for thousands of people it was such an honour at 29 years old to be featured in bill war magazine staff 30 under 30 with people like Daniel X the founder of Spotify Cortez Bryant the manager of Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne and Scooter Braun manager Bieber and Tori Kelly and to be featured in The Source magazines power 30 divided notables like Diddy you or Russell Simmons with the founders of myspace.com Crystal wolf and Anna Tom Anderson something unimaginable you know we started myspace.com with 126 registered him up artist within 2 years right over 2 million to be in that issue with a lot of those notables really with a testament to all of our hard work what's been so exciting to start my own there's so much clutter in industry it's hard to trust anybody but what we can trust is a referral by a trusted source so when we we do is help connect the dots with artist Brand Nexus Media companies I'm coming to us and and for recommendation on who they should book you know for a live event or for an interview that will help draw an audience to their platforms way it helps Foster collaboration introducing artist to producers or an artist to a music video director whatever the end goal in mind we health business relationship but just like all of you discover things of my best friends are here too the first name that your career path it's not one job good job and I would always say to be an MTV VJ I want to be on television energy interviewing Martin Elementary when you don't necessarily stop by here to tell you that your job a post without looking is on the way because I know sometimes it feels like it's a test but there's no right or wrong answer there's no raining it's your own it's not a test high schools in the world that's one of the most competitive in the world Finance volleyball Hunter on dirty and it wasn't all don't feel like eating with other people you're on your own Journey I'm such a fan of Walnut High School timing interval bet I came back to Walnut and 2008 okay and every other things are just a few were they always heard about the city holds all the California because I have such a pride for the city I want a TV for the future generations to know that whatever but now there's thousands of people in any career field that are doing exactly what you want Sonoma journey start here because your journey starts here the people around you are some of the people that are going to counting here today over 20 years later djmariio Baylor College what is a relationship to build here today and last for a lifetime which one another thing I'm going to talk to you about this that the age-old question that they asked that's usually when were younger not so much as we get older if what you want to do the reason why I have an issue with that question two pictures feel like you hate me to start your career 7 graduate college or when you first get a job the truth assassin's you start walking after the restart, so let's is it enough what would you do if money was no object and I don't mean what would you do as a career if money wasn't an issue not when your friends call you to do don't care what you do DanTDM Jennifer Niven today make a tree monster DNA looking back in real life and his room bigger I'm here to tell you that I crossed the world there's a limit Acadia that are pursuing and because everybody has a different dream know that it's okay to be different like Justin Bieber said you got to love yourself right and because we know that your career you can start how high can you pull out a map you think about where you want to go first or nowadays you can order the type in your destination what's the fart what is your essay giving you up with any of your seat is that it's okay to get lost you might not have all the answers just like when you get lost with the most important thing to do stop and ask for directions right a lot of us are too stubborn to Strasbourg Swingin utters to ask help support advice guidance you have an amazing faculty as well as a goodbye a longtime family friend as well as that you should find not just here but in the industry that you want to have opportunity Haley from mentor looking for an internship that came from volunteering because we're not in the insurance I went was the first one there and on the last one to leave volunteer to give wooden had a mentor write about a play is not only for them to help me but I can help them 7.25 mentors in y Rochester family and friends of illegal to give you suggestions of what you can do the snakes that they gave him want you to follow that they have nada is not a race we know it's okay to get lost we have to create a Roku how many meters are megas people in the where you're at a concert at a sporting event or your friends or your family you're on the phone the whole time and I know we live in a digital age what is importance of how do I know if I don't see Mikey wants to go in the Dream House performance stage for about 40 minutes I know the code to get into my camera unable to post on Instagram are you going to watch the footage after and I did it because what happens when you shoot all this but if you have to wind up the leading it right because he's facing your phone the real life terminal my calendar to put the phone down as possible how many tons are in class workout Morgan will do that tomorrow your future if I would leave today not tomorrow you can do today and not tomorrow and how do I know that within the living room with your journey starts here send it because my dirty starting here and I'm living proof here's my wallet high school days in a nutshell because I was an athlete of the 411 a week so I pushed my and circular activities until I love with him so just music at lunch time BJ Department to be distributed mixtapes to my classmate W games because my sister was a class president of 2002 Crystal Cruise you brought me back to Austin DJs Peter Jonathan together so much that I got the confidence to audition for MTV when they had to be Jake remind me to Hollywood California the last casting office 411 sorry I had to make a short we can do hold the phone over your hand television Emerald devastating actually learn when I came home with rush hour because what time is it right now Empire the positive messages how can I get a radio show here in Malden internet the radio station in Mount San Antonio College Air1 radio station are there any surveys radio the interview numerous of the time show my age by telling us of these artists was the Black Eyed Peas most telefone the first time for some of the first artist I got the interview alarm please your parents I like I said in the video a lot of my internships let me to my first jobs because of the able to gain that experience people to start producing my own concerts and events that eventually at my own jobs couples of my experience and producing concerts myself I was able to become the first mark sing executive at myspace.com helping new artist at the time weather is Bruno Mars J Cole Etc or it was producing concerts for Jay Z next Addmore it was my dream job and although I spent 10 amazing years there the next step in my journey was to create my own company and that's where we created my also look MTV casting agent was wrong close to 20 years later and now have my own TV show featuring superstars of tomorrow that I know are going to be Superstars what Alex aiono Chance the Rapper Russ Anderson paak kehlani and Migo's come you guys know Migos raindrop drop top well she was wrong not only can I stand on a box when I'm short and interviewing artist but you can't take no for an answer and play mix I did now to be able to Showcase some of these future artists and I love to hear from you guys who are other artists we should feature asking you today can you do today that will impact your future success he already know that your journey is going to start today so what can you do today to it's time to get started we're going to get back to that question what do you want to be when you grow up actually we're not going to ask you that because you are grown up so here's a grown up what could you do as a career that would make you happy to wake up and go to work daily what could you do that give you a bigger sense of purpose in life just like a lot of the faculty still want to come to school here every day wanting to help all of you is it being a doctor and helping hundreds of patients you have the chance today to decide what career pause that will make an impact and those around you and don't worry you can always make a change in your career if you're not necessarily happy and one to ask her do you want a job or do you want a career hopefully by now and if you're everything I said you want a career it's important if you want to courage ask yourself what do you what are you passionate about what would you give you a sense of purpose in life and not just a paycheck less they were going to talk again about dreaming big setting goals and taking action what's great about now is that you can realize they can dream as big as possible you don't have to restrict yourself it's only a dream until you write it down and then it becomes a goal and once it becomes a goal it turns into a step upon your journey so make sure you write down all of your dreams can you write down all of your goals to become steps in your journey now it's time to create a career goals and creating steps for your journey feel like every step has to be a huge top you can make small steps startup by doing research writing down every career that you have some soda interest in you could do what time is of research online your best friend could be YouTube and Google I want to college what's your step there it might be that you start at a junior college I did a might be that you go straight to a for your school or that you go to an Ivy League school or I could be that you go straight into the workforce save money and go back into college what's the proper step for you again because this is not a test there's no wrong or right answer you know the right answer for yourself your first jobs are also really important your first shots are all a really good opportunity to get experience in your industry it doesn't necessarily mean you have to be at a high position at these places before example I went to Athlete's Foot in the West Covina Mall it was my very first job think of it as a tennis shoe stores similar to Footaction and Footlocker it doesn't exist anymore but even though it was just a shoe store I work there because number one oh and needed to earn money and secondly I loved it discounted tennis shoes I also play music videos and the TV screen there and because how does able to introduce the different videos to artist that came in or just people that came into the store and then again that was giving me experience as a music industry executive if you want to be a designer if you want to be a fashion designer you can work at a retail store learn about the retail process about how to create your own store and you can also learn by Zion's knowing what people are actually buying in the store if you want to become a dentist you can work at a dentist office of the administrative assistant and learn how a dentist office when's why you're studying in school so there when you graduate you have the opportunity to have experience in a real dentist office before you even get started the first times are really important really take the time to consider what jobs you do as well as what you do at the jobs because even though it's not necessarily in your field you could do things like I did like producing music videos and playing them in my store and bring a new Artisan to generate more customers to the store you can always create a part of your job that applies to your future industry or your future experience in the career an industry that you want to be in how can you volunteer in the industry that you're in again your relationships and your experience are just as valuable if not more valuable then your education when it comes to finding a real job and your career to take the time to invest and invest some time and feels internships volunteer while you're in college because again thousands of people graduate from college every year with similar degrees what's going to make you stand apart from the rest create resources for skip are those internships in this volunteer opportunities if there's not a lot of people in your industry that you know you can drink tons of clubs not only at your school or were they near Community bill online there's tons of events that you can attend with in your industry as well you can do a lot of research online or attending community Kings ready talk about these things and last but definitely not least but most important mentors and advised not only from your family and friends but from the mentors around you that work in the exact industry that you want to be in because I'll be able to give you shortcuts will be able to give you additional steps that you might not have thought of within your journey the most important thing about goal setting is to be smart it's an acronym for being specific measurable attainable relevant and time-bound if you keep to those things when nickel will become steps and each type you'll take you'll be able to look back once you taking several sets and see how far you've come so get started imma leave you with five things today and if you don't remember everything I said I know it's a lot remember these five things number one your career path is a journey it's not one job it's not a destination it's not a test it's not a competition nor is it a race it support to be present and pay attention put the phone down I wish I knew when I was your age it everything happens for a reason every book that you read every person that you meet every event that you 10 is a potential inspiration to the step in your journey it's important to stay present and pay attention to the signs what you do now will impact your future not tomorrow but today remember that your relationships and your experience coupled with your education is a win without it you'll have to take a longer time to get where you so get started now and start with the end in mind don't dream small dream big I want you dream big write it down so it becomes goals and from creating goals you create steps and you have your career roadmap you might not stick to the exact same world map but at least you'll have an idea of where you want to go you notice that when you go somewhere new it takes awhile to get there but when you go home and you're back to going back to somewhere you knew that's familiar it's faster to get home and why is it that I suppose you know where you're going and that works the same way in your we're last day don't forget that your journey starts here at Walnut High School enjoy the people that are potentially going to be here for the rest of your life to help you sir are you throughout your career enjoy the scenery like in and out Cold Stone New York Pizzeria to Street Fighter machine to bring us together but there's so many places that you can go to get together and to talk about your career and last but not least Martin King said it best you don't have to see the entire whole staircase just take the first step congratulations just buy you today or watching this later online or reading the transcript later you taking the first step now it's up to you to continue this I can't wait to come back here every career day and hear additional stories keep me posted on your progress make sure you add me on Instagram message me what more material or free books to help you along in your journey so here I am again close to 20 years from the last time I was standing in the gym waving the and I'm doing it again if I could have wore the Superman costumes I would have done it again but it doesn't fit I can't wait to come back and hear all the stories of all the progress you've made in your car I want to sit in the bleachers and hear the future stories that you'll speaking standing in my place water feature plants graduation to take hey guys are back Harold on that High School the one that girls add 1 1 you did so proud of you turn the flashlight on
