Attached is the Study Guide for the Semester 1 Final - it's just a list of topics to review. Don't forget to bring your homework packet and notecard on Final Day! If you're using the larger note-sheet, don't forget to bring a new box of tissues or roll of paper towels. The rubric for the homework packet will be posted here later today.
Bring study materials to class with you today; Ms. B is out and you'll have a sub. It will be a study hall period; NO PHONES allowed to be used.
Due:
Assignment
Do the following problems from your textbook: Pgs 876-877, section 11.3, # 15-24. Show work using dimensional analysis and round answers to correct sig figs!
Due:
Assignment
do the following problems in your book: Appendix A, Pg 876, # 1-14. Show work using dimensional analysis!
Due:
Assignment
Print the three attached sheets, and do the EVEN-NUMBERED problems on pages 48-49. Read the instructions and look at the examples given if you get stuck.
Due:
Assignment
Print all the attached documents (Unless you got them from me already in period 6). Balance problems 1-66 on the balancing reactions practice worksheet. Also, identify each reaction as either SR, DR, Syn, Dec, or Comb, or NA (none of these).
You should already have a copy of the attached worksheet, and you should have already drawn Lewis structures for all the molecules on both sides. If not, do that. Then:
(1) Count the number of electron domains around each molecule's central atom; that is the STERIC NUMBER. Write that number in the column labeled "Steric number". (2) Using the chart provided earlier (it's posted in an earlier homework assignment), determine the electron domain arrangement, and from that, the molecular shape. Write the molecular Shape name in the column labeled "Shape". (3) Leave the remaining columns blank for now.
QUIZ TODAY on Naming and Formula-Writing for IONIC and MOLECULAR compounds and ACIDS! You must know the naming rules for all three types of compounds and be able to write correct formulas if given the names, and write correct names if given the formulas. Format will be very similar to the polyatomic ions quiz. There will be 30 EDIT: 20 compounds total.
Due:
Assignment
Do the following problems: Pg 874 -875, Ch. 8, section 8-3, #3,4,5; Ch. 9, Section 902, #2,3
Homework binder due today! Here is a preliminary copy of the rubric. It was brought to my attention that there were several assignments from the Nuclear unit that weren't counted in the prior binder check; they have been added to this rubric (Ch. 4 and Ch. 25).
Due:
Assignment
PRINT the attached worksheet and bring it to class on Wednesday (periods 3, 4) or Thursday (per. 6). You will work on it in class with the sub on Wednesday. Make sure you print it! The Sub won't have many extra copies and you WONT BE ALLOWED TO USE YOUR PHONES!
And... complete the rest of the compounds on the worksheet for # 7-11.
Due:
Assignment
Complete the rest of the problems for numbers 1-6 on the naming & formula writing worksheet. Quiz on Polyatomic Ions has been moved to MONDAY 10/29!
Due:
Assignment
Complete the first column of problems on both front and back of the Naming and Formula-writing worksheet for numbers 1-11. (Worksheet was passed out in class; if you lost yours, a copy is attached here.)
Due THURS for periods 3 and 4; due FRI for per. 6: Do problems on Pg 147 # 65-70. Refer to diagram of the electromagnetic spectrum on page 120 to determine the type of radiation based on wavelength or frequency.
Due:
Assignment
By popular demand, the Kahoot review quiz we played today in class can be found here:
Print and complete the following pages of the attached study guides for chs. 4 and 25: CH. 4: Do ALL pages (due Monday) CH. 25: Pages 1-3 only (due Tuesday) TEST on Nuclear Chemistry on TUESDAY
PRINT The attached lab and bring with you to class on Tuesday. DO The following problems in your textbook: Pg. 837, # 69-72 (note: Beta decay means electrons, not positrons); Pg 886 # 1 a-c; #2
Do the following problems in your textbook: pages 82-83, # 33,34,36,37,39,40,41,45,46,49,50,70
Due:
Assignment
If you want additional dimensional analysis practice, here is an optional worksheet with answer key. Do the problems first before looking at the answer key! Good luck!
Print the attached Study Guide for Ch. 2, and complete pages 1-5 (do not do page 6). TEST on Chs 1-2 on TUESDAY! Study your NOTES and the following sections of your textbook:
CH 1: section 1.3 and page 16 (safety rules) CH 2: Sections 2.1-2.3 only (not 2.4)
Complete the Significant Digits worksheet that was passed out in class on Tuesday (it is attached below if you were absent). Due WED for periods 3 & 4, due THURS for period 6.
PRINT the attached Lab instructions. CREATE a DATA TABLE as instructed in the lab procedure. You must show the data table to Ms. B at the beginning of the period and get it stamped. Make it large (a whole sheet of paper) and make sure you include spaces for all data (L, W, H, mass), calculations (Density) and observations (Float or Sink?) you will make for all five types of material (Black, White, Gray, Clear, and Milky).
MEMORIZE the metric prefixes, their abbreviations, and their numeric values as shown in your book on page 26.
STUDY your safety rules on page 16 for the quiz on Monday.
Due:
Assignment
Study safety rules (page 16 of textbook) for Safety Quiz on Friday! Also: Use dimensional analysis to solve the attached problem. Most (not all) of the conversion factors you will need are given; however, you will need to know a few conversion factors (like cm to m, and m to km). Good luck!
In your Textbook: READ section 1.2 (pgs. 7-9); DO Section 1.2 Assessment questions #6-10 on page 9; READ section 1.3 (pgs 9-13); DO Section 1.3 Assessment questions # 11, 12, 14, 16 on page 13.
Optional Donations are still gladly accepted!
