Call for Presenters

 

We are excited to host our 2nd annual parent outreach/education event on Saturday, October 6th.  We will have Paul Kanarek as our keynote speaker.  Kanarek co-founded the California branch of The Princeton Review, is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of both testing and college admissions and has been featured on many media outlets.  

Ed. Services is seeking presenters for 1 hour break-out sessions.  The times for the break-out sessions are 9:45-10:45 AM and 11:00-12:00 PM.

Social/Emotional Learning:         40 Developmental Assets

                                                          Building/Balancing a healthy lifestyle

            Finding Balance between Academics and Extra-Curricular Activities

                                                         Building up Self-Esteem

                                                         Character Strengths and Life Skills

                                                         Growth Mindset

 

Newcomers:            Cultural Differences in Child Rearing

                                   Maneuvering through the K-12 CA School System

                                   How to have a voice when you don’t speak the language

Academics:              Questions to ask at parent/teacher conferences

                                   Elementary to middle school transition

                                   School and homework organization

                                   Transition from middle school to high school

                                   A-G requirements

                                   NCAA scholarships

                                   College and career readiness

 

Behavior:                  Building a positive home structure using effective actions/consequences

                                   Creating systems and procedures at home to support a positive environment

                                   Reading the silent signs for help: depression, anxiety, withdrawn

                                   Knowing the signs of outside influences affecting your child

                                   Positive communication between teens and adults

                                   Positive and negative influences

 

Technology:             How to vet educational games, apps, and websites

                                   Creating digital free days

                                   Social media safety

                                   Social media and the effects on your brain

                                   Cyberbullying

                                   Social Media Addiction

 

Presenters will be compensated with the following guidelines:

Certificated: 

·        Up to 4 hours of preparation at the professional rate.

·        On the day of the event, compensated for 90 minutes at the instructional rate for presenting one session or compensated for 3 hours at the instructional rate for presenting at both sessions (You may present the same topic at both sessions).

Classified:

·        Up to 4 hours of preparation time outside of your work day.  Compensation will be at the employee’s hourly rate or overtime rate, if applicable.

·        On the day of the event, compensated for 90 minutes at the employee’s hourly rate (or overtime rate, if applicable) for presenting one session or compensated for 3 hours at the employee’s hourly rate (or overtime rate, if applicable) for presenting at both sessions (You may present the same topic at both sessions).
