Walnut High’s ‘Almost, Maine’ Offers Sensory-Friendly Performance

WALNUT, CA--Walnut High School of the Arts will explore love and loss on a deeply cold and magical Midwinter night in “Almost, Maine” with 7 p.m. shows on October 30, November 1, and 2 in the Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $8 for students and $12 for adults and are available online at https://www.walnuthigharts.com/buy-tickets.

In addition, a sensory-friendly matinee on Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m. will welcome and support audience members with autism, sensory and communication disorders, or learning disabilities.  General admission matinee tickets are $5 at the door.

At these special shows, the house lights are not darkened entirely, loud and jarring sounds are softened, and strobe lights and other effects are not used—all in an effort to make the shows enjoyable for people with heightened sensitivities.

Sign language interpreters are available for the deaf and hard of hearing community.

Parents of children on the autism spectrum don’t need to worry about their child clapping at the wrong time, singing along loudly, or needing to stand up and move their bodies.

Everyone can enjoy the production in their own way. Need a break? The theater lobby will have quiet activity stations, staffed by Best Buddies student volunteers, for kids and adults who want to stretch their legs.

Walnut High School is located at 400 N. Pierre Road in Walnut.
